Notes and Announcements

091103 - As announced in class today, I am about to reorganize the ENAE 483 class into the specialty groups that you will be in for the rest of this term and throughout ENAE 484 next term. For those who didn't make it to class today (or if you feel like you've changed your mind on some of your answers and want to start over), you should download the description of the six specialty groups (PDF) and use that information to fill out the PDF form and e-mail it back to me so I have your preferences, which I will try to take into account in the assignment process. I must have your completed survey by the end of the day tomorrow (Wednesday, 11/04)!!!

091029 - Since there are people in class with another midterm on Tuesday, I'm going to move the midterm one last time to Thursday, 11/5. You can check out copies of an earlier mid-term exam and solution set (both PDF files). The Initial Concept Review will be held tomorrow (Friday 10/30) in the Engineering Annex Building, room 0307. EAB is in the courtyard of A. V. Williams; you enter the classroom from the back side of the building (side facing AVW.)

091025 - It turns out more people than expected have work conflicts with Thursday 10/29 for the midterm. Also, in thinking about it, I'm not crazy about back-to-back deadlines of the midterm on Thursday and the Initial Concept Review on Friday. So, while I hate to move the exam again, I think it makes the most sense to focus on the ICR on Friday, and move the midterm to Tuesday, 11/3.

091023 - No joint class today, but save next Friday afternoon (2:30-4:30) for the Initial Concept Review with ASU!

091020 - Ignore Problem 8 for now - Problems 6, 7, 9, and 10 are due on Thursday 10/22.

091015 - Problems 9 and 10 are up; problem 8 should be up later today.

091012 - I'm finally back to where I can upload to this site, and I've brought the lecture notes up to date. As I mentioned in class last week, I'm catching up on the problem sets, and the current (and final!) plan is that problems 6-10 will be due a week from Thursday, on 10/22. This will move the mid-term exam back to Thursday, 10/29. If you have a problem with that date, let me know and we'll make other arrangements as necessary. The Concept Review will be sometime the week of the 19th or the week of the 26th, depending on coordination with ASU. (P.S. - The lecture titles after #16 are tentative, and I have to straighten out the rest of the syllabus.)

090924 - There was a typo in an orbital mechanics equation on page 34 of lecture 3 (thanks, Mark!) - it has been fixed and the new value is in blue in the new version of the lecture notes.

090920 - With travel and everything else last week, I never posted the problems for Lecture 6. I've changed to deadline on Tuesday to be problems 2-5, and 6 will be due with the next batch on Oct. 6th. (That's a better distribution, anyway.) Also, the force diagrams on page 49 of Lecture 5 were drawn incorrectly (thanks, Laura and Brandon!) - they have been fixed now.

090916 - Fixed the link to Lecture 4 problem set, and corrected a typo in problem 2b for Lecture 3 (it should be r_apogee, not perigee.) Sorry about that...

090911 - The university just spontaneously executed a DNS name request I made a month ago (and had given up on) - if you're having trouble getting to the wiki site, it's no longer "ssl-3.umd.edu" - the full link is now http://rocketscience.umd.edu - sorry this happened on a problem deadline, please get your stuff in as soon as you can. (I've changed the links below, too.)

090908 - For grad students who haven't been able to get on the wiki, I had inadvertently linked you into the undergrad wiki, rather than the grad wiki. It should be fixed now - please try again and let me know if you have any problems.

090905 - I've been delayed in posting the first few problems, so I'm going to move the first deadlines around somewhat. Problem 1 is entirely about getting into the course computer assets and meeting with your preliminary design teams, so I want you to get that done by the end of this coming week (9/11). Problems 2 and 3 are more traditional problem-solving exercises which would be difficult to exclusively turn in electronically, so since I'm going to be on travel the week of the 14th, I'm going to ask you to turn in problems 2-3 along with 4-6 on Tuesday, 9/22. All e-mail contacts and team assignments (including 788D team assignments) are on the "Team Contact Info" pages on the wikis.

090902 - The slides for Lecture 1 have been updated to include the ASU students in the team lists
